Green Credentials "embracing new environmental techniques" At Poplar we take our responsibilities to the environment very seriously and it is our endeavour to deliver environmental printing services. Increasingly in the world we live in it is becoming more important for all organisations and individuals to be doing their bit and at Poplar we believe we are embracing new environmental techniques to ensure we are demonstrating Corporate Social Responsibility. We have been both FSC and 14001 accredited since early 2008. These standards link into our Quality Management System ISO 9001 which already embraces ISO 12647-2 Colour Management Standard and it is our goal that by the end of 2010 we will comply with ISO 18001 Health and Safety Standard. FSC members comprise of a diverse group of representatives from environmental and social groups, the timber trade, paper industry, forestry profession, indigenous peoples organisation and forest production certification groups from around the world. It is their job to ensure that the forests are managed to protect wildlife habitat and respect the rights of local communities. FSC Chain of Custody is the process by which the source of timber is verified. Certification involves inspection and auditing of the land from which the timber and pulp originate and tracking it through all aspects of production until it reaches the end user. Only organisations such as ourselves who have obtained third party accreditation are able to use the FSC logos on printed products, for a printed product to carry the logo it must have been printed on FSC Paper and have a fully auditable FSC supply chain. We actively encourage all our Customers to use FSC products but for those who are not quite convinced all our other papers and boards are derived from wood pulp which is sourced from sustainable forests and conform to ECF Elemental Chlorine Free Standards. |
Avoidance or Reduction in the use of Chemicals Our presses run IPA Free (isopropyl alcohol). Our inks are vegetable oil based. The above two items virtually eliminate our emissions of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) into the atmosphere and therefore reduces a major source of ozone pollution and lowers a potential hazard to our staff. |
